The purpose of this Give-A-Little page is to receive donations from individuals in the community to help build the Waiohine river bridge
Let’s Build a Bridge Together!
Building a bridge over the mighty Waiohine River is no small task. Our dedicated team has set an ambitious timeframe for completion – we’d like it completed within two years!
When completed the bridge (providing a safer route for walkers and cyclists between Carterton and Greytown) will connect to other trails in the district and extend the already popular route from Wellington.
This bridge will be a huge asset to our community, not only for residents but because of the spectacular design it will be a destination for out-of-town visitors, cyclists and walkers alike, thereby boosting the local economy. The potential success of this bridge could be like other trails in the country, for example the hugely popular Otago Rail Trail.
Carterton District Council has formally agreed to support the project in principle and to take ownership once completed. This is great news. The design is complete, foundation testing undertaken and we are ready to go.
All we need now is to raise $3M to build the bridge!
Here’s where we need your help. We’re taking a three-tier approach to funding:
1. Those involved with Trusts and likeminded Philanthropic funders, with a willingness to support a significant community project, and with the possibility of naming rights.
2. Local businesses, both big and small with a vested interest in growing our local economy.
3. Individual donations “the power of working together”.

3. Individual donations “the power of working together”. For example, if just half the population of Wairarapa donated $10 each that would that would contribute an impressive $250,000!
We will use Give-A-Little donations to assist with the construction of the Waiohine Bridge which will provide a safer walking and cycling access between Carterton and Greytown. The completed bridge will connect with other local trails.
