  • Trial day

      2 December 2014

Wow, I have had a very uplifting day today. My beautiful sister from Dunedin came up to give me the hugs strength and support I need. A good appointment with the trial coordinator, tomorrow is the big day, the tests results will be in, but ..............there is only one small simple word that we are going to hear. Until tomorrow it's now time to sleep. Thankyou for all your likes and posts of encouragement, they are powerful and truly do help me dig deep and remain strong and positive . Xoxo

  • Holiday and Trial Update

      24 November 2014

We are back from our incredible holiday to LA and Hawaii. Disneyland and California Park was just amazing. We raced around for 2 days on total adrenaline. Its certainly the place of happiness. It was then off to Beverly hills for a couple of nights. Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica. Saw some amazing sights. After 6 days we flew to Hawaii for more sight seeing, relaxing, a little shopping and learn how to surf. The surfing was a big tick box for me. I had just caught a wave in, my instructor with perfect timing helped turn my board around to watch my family all surf in on waves. Tears streaming down my face. It was Happiness in overdrive. While we were there the trial team phoned with an appointment to meet with the lead research team Oncologist. December 3rd I fly to Christchurch for the day. They will run some tests and then depending on those will confirm full eligibility into the trial. Thats about all I know at this stage. Very pleased to get my appointment. This week has been about pain management. As the tumour is growing and pushing on more nerves, now moving into the right side too so the pain has been pretty intense. My oncologist has referred me to Hospice to get better control of my pain on a more day to day basis. I am nervous about hospice, but will be great to get the pain under control then I can focus on making a photo album of all our wonderful memories of our holiday. Which again, a massive Thank you to all of you for your continued support. Our trip of a life time would not have been possible without your help. Thankyou xo

  • Update for 30/09/2014

      30 September 2014

Last week was a very busy week with appointments which saw me travelling to 3 different hospitals. Manukau, Greenlane and Auckland. The radiation results weren't what we had hoped for. None the less the tumour had shrunk by 1cm. So thats a positive. Its just that since it was our only shot we had hoped for a much bigger reduction. My medical oncology team is now working hard to get the trial going. I so need this trial. Its hard knowing you have this tumour growing and there is no modern medicine that can now help. I am taking alternative pills and though we hope and pray these work, there is no scientific evidence to suggest it will. Well until another update, I wish to thank you all again for helping me and my family on this journey. We are creating some amazing memories along the way. (Very busy I might add, trying to squeeze a life time of memories into what time we have, just incase) I am blessed to have your support. Amanda :)

  • Update for 04/09/2014

      4 September 2014

Its been a busy few months recovering from the effects of Radiation. The days are now filled with everyday stuff, school, homework, work and after school activities. Plus adding in as much memory filled fun as possible. Winter for us is about snow skiing, so this winter we have spent lots of time on the slopes. Its been fantastic, even managed to get all 3 generations skiing/boarding. My dad who is now 70 has got back on his ski's all the way down to my youngest at 7. Happiness at its best. Yesterday I had my much waited CT Scan, this will look at the effectiveness of the Radiation. So its all fingers and toes crossed. I am feeling very positive! The results will hopefully not be too far away. Will post an update when they come through. Enjoy the wonders of SPRING!

  • Update for 17/06/2014

      17 June 2014

During Chemotherapy we researched lots of alternative pills and potions that I could take once Chemo finished. There is so much on the internet that sadly prays on our vulnerability. We finally found something that made sense and as soon as I was given the GO from my oncologist I started taking Salvestrols. http://www.salvestrol.co.nz/ In short this is how it works. ""The CYP1B1 enzyme in diseased cells offers the potential to use the plantsf response and make it part of our own defenses. Consuming Salvestrol-rich plants lets Salvestrols enter our diseased cells and induce their death through metabolism by CYP1B1."" So although I wait for a trial drug, I am still believing and hoping in alternative drugs and continue to research any therapies that may help give me more time with my family.

      10 June 2014

Well its been ages since I posted an update. The donations coming in have been amazing. Your support is overwhelming! A couple things that I haven't posted is the incredible night we had on the Charity Auction. We raised $18,188.63. It was a fabulous night, everyone was in such high spirits. May 31st we held the Charity dinner which again was so much fun. Many faces that have been there to support me from the beginning and then there were people from my past that I hadn't seen for many years. So yes I cried, its weird how its about a sad situation but its been such a wonderful experience and honour to be surrounded by the love and support of so many people. The final amount of the dinner has not been confirmed but i believe its around $3000 which is fantastic. I now have 4 sessions of radiation to go, its gone so fast since we hit that half way mark. Today I spoke with the research team in Christchurch to get things underway. A few things to sort out but might be as soon as a couple of weeks away. During all of this Luke and I decided we should grab life and not miss any opportunities to experience happiness. So with my health news being a bit up and down, on Saturday June 7th we got married. Surrounded by all our family. The day was magical, perfect in every way. :) xo

Its been a very busy few days. An extremely successful auction on Friday night at the Backyard Bar. Thankyou to everyone that came. The energy in the bar was electric! Some incredible items were up for grabs and everything went. Today I had my first session of radiation. I was pretty nervous, but the staff are amazing and you soon feel relaxed. The biggest thing was trying to swallow as the mask is very firm. 1 down and 29 to go. Thankyou again to donating to my cause. Your generosity is so very kind. My family and I are very grateful. The stress and pressure this takes off us is incredible. :) Amanda

Thank you to everyone who has donated. Your generosity is awesome and very much appreciated. Today we started the day with a trip to my happy place and watched the Sunrise. Getting up in the morning when its dark and a little chilly to watch such an amazing landscape change in front of you is awesome. If you haven't yet done it, go do it!!!
