The Glenorchy Planting Project: capturing carbon, loving our landscapes and building biodiversity.

$1,205 donated
Given by 12 generous donors in over a year

A visitor giveback scheme that captures carbon.

Glenorchy, Otago

The best souvenirs are the ones we grow for you to leave behind.

The Glenorchy Community Native Plant Nursery is unashamedly quantifying the carbon produced by our visitors and residents and providing means to counter it that also supports skilled, high value, and worthwhile employment in our community. A not for profit, nature based solution where everyone’s a winner!

This isn’t about becoming part of a formally certified offset scheme - we’re not that - its’ just about doing the right thing and making a difference.

Every $ you donate will be used to capture carbon and be magnified by the work of our local volunteers.

It takes 5 native trees 50 years to capture 1 tonne of CO2e . It costs $25 to grow one from locally ecosourced seeds, nurture it in our nursery and then, having planted it locally, give it love and attention for the next 3 years.

$2 will capture the carbon produced by the average car driving from Queenstown to Glenorchy and back.

$3.50 will capture the carbon produced by the average car driving from Queenstown to the Routeburn and back.

$5 will capture the carbon produced, on average, by a passenger enjoying a jet boat tour on the Dart River

$10 will counter the carbon produced, on average, by a passenger enjoying a 20 minute Heli flight

We love our visitors and we’d love you to help us take care of your carbon.
