Katie’s Road to Healing

  • Update and Farewell.

      21 August 2019

    Hi all,

Katie is halfway through her second week of Chemo. We may be changing chemo drug as her Nephropathy is hurting a lot more with the current drug.

With our current situation as it is we are having to go through the insolvency process. More specifically a No Asset Procedure. As a result of this our Budget provider Christians Against Poverty (CAP) have suggested we take down our Give A Little Page to make the whole process less bumpy.

For those of you who would still like updates regarding Katie we ask that you either check her Facebook or get in touch with Whangarei Central Baptist Church who will be able to update you.

For those of you would still like to contribute financially to help us out we kindly ask that you give the funds to Whangarei Central Baptist Church and they will then distribute the funds to our account as and when we need them. That way the Insolvency Tribunal won't view the Give A Little Page as Asset.

Kindest Regards from us all and a HUGE thankyou to those of you who have been so helpful so far.

  • Been a while

      7 August 2019

    Kia Ora,

It’s been quite a while since I’ve given an update.

We are now back up in Whangarei and have moved house to a warmer and more accessible home.

Katie finished radiation quite some time ago now.

However the radiation didn’t erase all of the monoclonal plasma cells they were hoping to erase.

As a result of this Katie is due to start Chemotherapy next Monday. She’ll also be on a 24 month dose of the bone strengthening drug Zoledronic Acid.

Both of which are nerve wracking.

There is still no word on the immigration front. We will find out shortly. However it’s almost certain that we’ll have to fight for an appeal and a pardon.

We are also changing our goal from a set goal to an open fundraising goal. The only reason I set it that high was so it didn’t get shut off.

(My mistake for not reading it correctly).

    Once again,

Thank you so much to all of you who have been supporting us so diligently through this difficult time.

    Kindest Regards,

    Adam Katie and Niam

  • PET Scan

      7 May 2019

    Kia Ora Whanau,

The latest update. Katie had her PET scan the other week and it showed nothing new in terms of extra hidden tumours which is great news. We have 3 1/2 weeks of radiation to go. 99 treatments all up to treat all of them.

Next week on Wednesday the 15th we have a meeting with the main Haematologist, Leanne Berkahn down here at haematology to plan where to from here.

  • MRI. Radiation Therapy Begins.

      2 April 2019

    Kia Ora Whānau,

Katie had her MRI on Friday last week and thankfully the results have come back showing nothing new.

Today Katie had her 2nd Radiation treatment.

A CT is in the works for Friday afternoon and sometime soon the PET Scan will happen (They had some communication issues getting it approved).

  • Radiation Therapy Begins

      27 March 2019

    Kia Ora Whanau,

    The latest update:

After being discharged on Monday evening to go back home to Whangārei we got a phone call yesterday afternoon to say that they actually want us all the way back in Auckland as her Radiation Therapy begins on Monday. Each tumour requires 5 weeks of Therapy.

That’s not including the PET scan and MRI STIR scan she’s about to have and the results from them determining how much Chemotherapy, Bone Marrow transplants, Blood Transfusions she’ll require
