Support West End Rowing club as 10 women set out to break the 24hr world indoor rowing record in celebration of 30 years of women@werc

Auckland

8AM! New record of 333km or 333,065m rowed in 24 hours, 2:09.7 average.

6:04AM: Just passed the world record mark 305.2km, 2 hours left

Shout out to supporters: Kim Littlejohn, Liz Forde, Suz Goldsbury, Emma Burte, Susan & Marti, Amanda, David & Lisa and many more who cheered us on

5:41AM 300km of rowing gear washing. Feeling grateful to coaches Giacomo Galano, Robbie Manson & Hasan Pathan for years of training programmes

5:04AM row o’clock, ACDC cranking, shifts shorter, 291km laid down 2:10.1 average. 3 hours to go and 14km away from the record

3:36AM 270,602m rowed to date, charging on 2:10.3 average we are doing this

12:40AM Susan then Raech, 223KM+, avg has marginally slipped to 2:10.0 overnight, legs are feeling it, rest of us having a lie down, why does this not surprise me that this bunch are well ahead of the target 2:17 and stretch target of 2:13?

7PM Gigi just passed the 150km mark, 2:09.6 avg overall, it’s getting harder to get up off the floor after each shift, blown away by the splits everyone is holding

330PM passed the 100km mark, 2:09 average still, projected 333km, legs are well warmed up, starting to make a dent in Kara McMurray’s baking delivery

12:45PM A great first shift has been put in over last 5 hours, 66km rowed, Paula is on. 2:09.4 avg split, projected 330km+, lets see how the legs go

11:01AM 3 hours, 40km rowed, Olympian Nicky has finished her shift, Nat Welch then Meg are on

10:21AM ~2:09 on Cordelias lovely new, 1 week old ERG, no worry about the battery

Turns out the record was broken exactly 30 years ago to the day that women were allowed into the club - quite the coincidence. Kim Littlejohn has kindly put together a video of the effort
