Melissa had surgery on her left kidney on the 14th March. It was another long four hour surgery and spent two days in ICU afterwards. She is still in a bit of pain but has already said her old kidney pain has gone. The pain is now just from the surgery which will improve with time.
So grateful to Dr Morata and his amazing team at the hospital.
We are nearly 5 months post op and Melissa’s progress has been absolutely amazing! We are starting to see her spark return! She is now able to eat and drink with no pain and vomiting which is amazing!
Melissa’s kidney has still been causing a lot of issues. We have recently been in contact with the surgeon in Spain and Melissa and Gerard will be heading over in a couple of weeks for surgery to sort this on the 14th/ 15th March.
We are so so grateful for everyone’s support - without it Melissa would not be with us today.
🥰🥰
Awesome news Mel, keep an eye on Mr King, do not let him go for a run! Tell him the Highlanders have been a bit woeful lately, he may need to lace up his boots when he gets back, on the proviso he has not got injured running w/ the bulls in Spain?
Hi all, we are back from Spain. Dr Morata was amazing. Mel is now eating small amounts without pain.
Unfortunately, Mel has had ongoing severe flank pain which the Dr believes could be nerve damage from the nutcracker compression. We have been given a couple of different surgical options and we will be heading back over around March to get this fixed as her body needs time to recover and she was not well enough to undergo another surgery at the moment. It is a laparoscopic surgery so will be less stress on her body.
It is so lovely to see her looking brighter!
Spain has given her the chance to live again. Thank you to all of you for helping us to get her there. We will be forever grateful!
As a result, we will be extending our give a little closing date so we are able to cover some of the upcoming costs to pay for her upcoming surgery.
Mel had surgery in Spain on Thursday. The Drs said it was a very hard and a very long surgery but now we are on the other side! She can already take deep breaths with no pain for the first time in a few years.
Now we slowly train her body to eat and drink again. As the psychologist says, it’s like moving from driving on the motorway to using the side road.
We are so very grateful to all of the amazing people that have helped us to get here and to the amazing team in Spain. It truly has given Mel a chance at life 3.0
How wonderful, my thoughts are with you all and wish you well. Tony
Hi all, we finally arrived in Spain. Tough journey for Mel, one flight ended up being 18.5 hours in Economy class. (Due to screw in tyre having to be replaced- extended plane trip by 1hr) Good sleep last night, rest days now before hospital on Monday.
Onwards and upwards 😊
All the best Mel. Thinking of you through this tough journey. Liz Rowe

Good stuff getting the Stuff reporter to get it to Media, it's great as I can forward the article to others. We will endeavor to increase it in a weeks' time at the Kenzie Stay Positive Mel!

Hi all, thank you very much for the support we have had so far, it really is very much appreciated.
We are still fighting for Mel to get a feeding tube which is taking a toll.
But every day is a day closer to Spain. ❤️❤️
