Chasing a World Champs spot — every bit helps!

  • Time to call it

      10 August 2025

    Hey team,

This is definitely not the update I thought I’d be writing today.

After a relatively positive week and a half of training in Leuven, and putting a lot of effort into keeping a positive mindset, I genuinely thought last night’s race in Oordegem was going to be the turnaround. The field was stacked, the weather was perfect, and the track was great.

Unfortunately, my body just didn’t come to the party. I felt like I couldn’t even compete anywhere near the level I have in the past. Honestly, I’ve felt like that most of this season. It’s been so far from my usual racing and, truthfully, not fun at all. Clearly something’s been off, and a couple of weeks of training, no travel and extra rest just wasn’t enough to fix it.

This sport can give you some incredible highs and some pretty brutal lows. After last year’s European season, I was sure this would be the year. Crazy how in just five weeks it can completely turn. It sucks - really sucks - especially as this is highly likely my last season on the track. I know I’ll always be proud I gave it everything I could, but I was really hoping to end on a high note.

Thank you all for the support over the last few years – whether it’s been one, two, three or more. It’s meant so much and I wouldn’t have been able to even give this a shot without you. Hopefully there’s a road-racing redemption arc in the future, but for now, a mental and physical break from running is well overdue.

  • An Unfortunate Update

      28 July 2025

Well this season is going nowhere near how I thought it might. This last week has been tough to say the least.

I had a race last weekend in Portugal which ended up being pretty tactical and therefore not fast. With still 4 or 5 of us in it with 400m to go, it came down to the last 100. I thought I had it but started to tie up a bit too much with 30m to go and couldn’t quite catch first resulting in a 2nd-place finish by .2 of a second. Always fun to race like that but that’s about the only positive thing over the last 8 days of racing.

Next up was Varberg, Sweden. A nice little spot but a race that went all downhill after the first lap. I can’t even tell you why because I have no reason for it. Finishing 7th in 4:16 was not the plan - not even close.

Next was Luxembourg and by far the worst race I’ve had in over two years. Things started off okay with a pretty quick first 300m, but I couldn’t stay with the pack for the last lap and a half and just went backwards.

Needless to say I’m extremely disappointed, sad, frustrated - you name it. I don’t want to call this season early but I may have to. Before I do I’m giving it one last shot to try turn things around. I’ve got the next 12 days to train in Leuven before another race on August 9. So I really hope I can do something here to revive this shit show! Fingers crossed! 🤞

  • Highs & Lows

Oh boy, oh boy! Well what can I say, the last 2 weeks have been a bit of a roller-coaster!! As some of you know, I got a bit sick prior to leaving NZ for Europe - nothing too crazy but enough to really kick me in the bum when you add in travel and recovery.

I kicked things off on the racing front on July 2 in Oslo with a 5k that did not go to plan. Ended up 4th in 16:05 - nowhere near where I wanted to be but given the travel and sickness I brushed that one off quickly.

After that I headed to Ireland and on Wednesday raced a 3k at Cork City Sports. Man that was AWFUL! I just felt like I had nothing to give and had to grind out a horrible 9:17 for last 😔. Nothing to knock your confidence and question what you’re doing than 2 back-to-back shit performances.

But the show must go on. I had 48 hours to try and pull off some kind of turnaround for the season!

Last night I raced at Morton Games and THANKFULLY ran my 2nd fastest 1500 of my career with a 4:08 (2s shy of my PB). Going in I’d dropped all expectations of a time, just race and shift the focus to not letting those mental demons impact what I was doing - it’s not something I’ve had to deal with often and it’s not an easy thing to do but this approach worked this time.

We all have highs and lows in this sport - and with how much time and effort we put in they can feel pretty extreme. The last 48 hours have been a roller coaster of emotion so here’s hoping all good ones from now 🤞 Next Up: July 19th in Portugal!

  • THANK YOU!!

      23 June 2025

    Hello team,

First, THANK YOU EVERYONE!! I really didn't think I'd get close to the number raised so far (just over $4600). Every little bit helps and you've all contributed to that. I really appreciate it!! And as I sit here in Auckland airport before the long travel day ahead, it definitely helps that financial burden.

To those who were interested in the spot prizes, I've now contacted all the winners to redeem their prizes.

Over the last few weeks I've had some pretty good workouts which have me really excited to get racing. It hasn't all been perfect with a bit of an ankle roll last week and a head cold this week BUT aside from that, this build has tested me more than ever and I'm excited to see what that means trackside!

    Racing kicks off at the start of July with the following;

July 2nd - Boysen Memorial 5000m (Oslo, Norway)

July 9th - Cork City Sports 3000m (Cork, Ireland)

July 11th - Morton Games 1500m (Dublin, Ireland)

I'm just waiting for my agent to confirm the rest but will let you know each update. I'll be sharing live stream links once I have them on my Instagram, and as always a little race update here after each one. So fingers crossed many fast times over the next 6-7 weeks and a world champs qualifier in the 1500m!
