Children of Gaza Crisis - Ceasefire in Gaza brings a wave of hope.

  • FAMINE CONFIRMED IN GAZA

      23 August 2025

On 22nd August, for the first time, famine has been confirmed in Gaza. More than 500,000 children and their families are trapped in conditions marked by widespread starvation, destitution and preventable deaths.

The deteriorating conditions in Gaza have reached famine thresholds, according to a new IPC alert. This is the first time a famine has been officially confirmed in the Middle East.

Almost two years of conflict, repeated displacement, and severe restrictions on humanitarian access, compounded by repeated interruptions and impediments to food access, water, medical aid and the collapse of health, sanitation, and market systems, have pushed people into starvation.

UNICEF is calling for an immediate ceasefire and safe, sustained humanitarian access to deliver prepositioned therapeutic food and save children's lives.

You can help by donating now.

  • "I speak to you with deep urgency and profound concern today."

Extract from UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban's recent visit to Gaza.

"This was my fourth visit to Gaza since the war began...You see the images on the news, but it is still shocking when you are there."

"Gaza now faces a grave risk of famine. One in three people in Gaza are going days without food. Today, more than 320,000 young children are at risk of acute malnutrition."

"At a stabilisation centre in Gaza City, I met acutely malnourished infants whose bodies were little more than skin and bone. Their mothers sat nearby, desperate and exhausted. One mother told me she no longer produces breastmilk - she herself is too hungry. UNICEF is doing everything we can by supporting breastfeeding, providing infant formula, and treating children with severe acute malnutrition. But the needs are enormous after 22 months of war, two months of a blockade, which has now been eased, but is still having an impact, and the aid is not getting in fast enough or at the required scale as of yet."

"We have over 1,500 trucks of life-saving supplies ready across corridors in Egypt, Jordan, Ashdod, and Turkey. Some have begun to move, and deliver in the last couple of days 33 trucks of life-saving infant formula, High Energy Biscuits and hygiene kits. But this is still a fraction of what is needed."

"We need to remember that humanitarian pauses are not a ceasefire. What children need is a sustained ceasefire and a political way forward."

    "Thank you."

  • One year of conflict and resilience in Gaza

      27 September 2024

It's been almost one year since the escalation of conflict in Gaza. Children have suffered through unimaginable horrors. Fighting and bombing has reduced their homes, schools, communities and dreams to rubble. Yet amidst the destruction, the strength and resilience of children has shone through.

However, as the humanitarian crisis deepens, we need your help to keep Gazan children and their dreams alive.

While the world watches on, you can act by supporting kids in Gaza. Your donation will bring rapid relief to displaced families and help children in desperate need of the essentials, such as clean water, food and medical care.

As this conflict in Gaza enters its second year, the needs are only growing more urgent. By acting today, we can bring hope and healing to kids who’ve lost so much already.

Please support our ongoing response by making your donation today.

  • A child is killed or injured every 10 minutes in Gaza.

      19 June 2024

"Images of burned children and families emerging from bombed tents in Rafah shocks us all. The reported killing of children sheltering in makeshift tents is unconscionable. For over seven months, we've witnessed this tragedy unfold, resulting in thousands of children killed or injured. There must be an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of all the hostages and an end to the senseless killing of children," Catherine Russell, UNICEF Executive Director.

There is no other option for the children of Gaza except a ceasefire!

Amid blocked aid routes, hostilities and logistical difficulties, UNICEF is on the ground continuing to do everything to help kids and their families in Rafah and the broader Gaza Strip.

The violence must end, the hostages must be released, and children must be protected at all costs.

Until then, please support us in ramping up supplies for the kids and their families in Gaza. The need is immense thus, we've decided to extend the duration of this appeal.

Thank you all for your support.

  • Famine in Gaza imminent

      3 April 2024

The entire population, including more than 1 million children, are facing high or catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity. Virtually all households are skipping meals, with parents going without so their children can eat.

UNICEF is in Gaza providing life-saving humanitarian support to those most in need. However, more support is urgently needed with famine imminent and every child in Gaza at risk of malnutrition.
