Fundraising for the Children's Emergency Department.
Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui
The Palmerston North Hospital Foundation is fundraising to create a dedicated space for children within the Emergency Department at Palmerston North Regional Hospital. The ‘Children’s ED’ will provide a child-friendly, whānau-focused area, separate from the general Emergency Department.
This separate area will feature four additional cubicles, a treatment room, a separate waiting area with a TV and kitchenette, child-friendly furniture and toys, catering to various needs and developmental stages, disabilities, illnesses and injuries. This is super important for the physical and psychological needs of our tamariki, plus will help keep them calm and away from the sometimes-scary general ED.
Our goal is to have builders in there by Christmas and the facility open and ready for use in the first half of 2024. However, we need further support to reach this milestone. That’s why we’re encouraging our community to come together and support this worthwhile cause.
The Palmerston North Hospital Foundation is a registered charitable trust aiming to improve health outcomes for communities in the wider Manawatū-Whanganui region, including Palmerston North City, Manawatū, Horowhenua and Tararua districts.
Money raised will be used to build the Children's Emergency Department at Palmerston North Hospital.
We did it! 13 May 2024
We are delighted to announce that the Palmerston North Hospital Foundation has successfully raised $700,000 for the construction of a dedicated children’s emergency department at Palmerston North Hospital.
The Foundation has met with the Hospital, and we have been advised that the final cost of the build will be completely covered by the generosity of our donors and the wider community.
This simply would not be possible without your support. Thank you.
Building consent has been granted for the new Children's ED and Alexander Construction has been appointed by the Hospital as the contractor. The Hospital is expecting construction to be completed in September.
To bring us to this point, we have been overwhelmed with the support of nearly 200 generous individuals, businesses, clubs and charitable trusts.
Special thanks to Mediaworks who helped raise awareness for this project and for running the ‘MoreFM Hundy Club’ on-air in December, helping to push the Givealittle page up to $20,000.
We have been blown away by the grassroots support that this project has generated from the community; from mufti days to selling sunflowers. Thank you.
This is just the beginning for the Palmerston North Hospital Foundation. We have many other projects in the pipeline, so watch this space.
