  • Update for 31/10/2014

      31 October 2014

Well this is it folks! Last day of Givealittle fundraising! I haven't been able to load up all the donations yet (and pledges), but together with my own money I currently have saved we have managed to scrape together just over two thousand six hundred dollars. Still shy of the absolute minimum I need, but not far off either. So it looks like I won't be doing quite as much traveling around as some of the people in my group, but I will still get to travel to Beijing and Shanghai as well as spending time in our main base. I'd like to say a huge ""thank you"" to everyone who has donated towards, pledged and/or shared this page about my trip! It really is a fantastic, once-in-a-life time opportunity, and an amazing way to round out my time as a student. For those who are interested, my work will be published once back (and upon completion). If you want to see a copy you're welcome to get in touch. Many thanks

There's just three weeks to go till I hop on a plane for China, and only 11 days left to raise more funds. Luckily I've won another scholarship that might help to cover some more of the cost, but it could take a little while to get the money (and still won't be enough). Hope you lovely people who've already donated can share some more, and spread the word!

  • Update for 13/10/2014

      13 October 2014

Here is a new update. It's been a busy week: Insurance sorted, visa paid for. More pledges received. As well as focusing on research and sustainable business in China, I'll also get time to practice my language skills in special Chinese language and cultural classes. We will have the opportunity to visit the residence of Lu Xun, a famous writer, and witness Chinese Kung Fu (??), Chinese opera and even trying my hand at calligraphy. Time to brush up on my ??? (that's Mandarin, or Putonghu?)!

Wow a big thank you to the 11 people who've donated so far. With your help I've reached the 5% threshold. Currently I'm applying for other grants and scholarships (there are two that have potential) and trying to get my cause out there as much as possible. Hopefully I can hit the $1000 mark by the end of this week - only a month to go! So some of the places I'll be going to. In addition to Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing, I will be visiting Hangzhou, Xitang town, and Yiwu city.

      6 October 2014

Over the next few days I'm going to publish some of the details of my trip! I'm excited to announce I will be attending the four day survey/conference on City Water Quality in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in Eastern China. There I can learn about the local governments work on improving water quality for the city and its inhabitants, as well as in Donghu (Lake?) and the Ancang ancient town.

Thank you to the first few fantastic people who have donated to my cause. With any luck you won't be the last. Tomorrow is a busy day of organising - first to get my Visa applications sorted, then off to the doctors to get medical clearance. So many things to do, on top of all my studies. Better start brushing up on my Chinese!
