I would like you to support me in my endeavour to purchase the cochlear implant, which will give me a chance to get my life back again.
Canterbury
I was born deaf, and have had hearing aids since I was 2. I have had hearing aids all my life. Then on November 5, 2015 I suffered a severe attack of Vertigo. For 6 weeks after this first attack, I had 6-7 hours of vertigo each day. So for 2 1/2 years I have had days when the tinnitus is so bad, I can't seem to think or hear very well. I have tried everything, from using natural medications and monitoring my diet. I don't sleep much at night as I have the tinnitus noise in my ears. In March this year I met with Southern Cochlear Implant Programme specialists and they recommend I get an implant for my Right ear. The Ministry of Health declined my application on the basis that my left ear was functioning well and my speech is so good. However my right ear failed all the tests and is not functioning well with the current Phonak hearing aid. I aim to have the operation in September/October this year. The device will cost $24,000. And specialists meetings over 2 years will be $5400.
The money will pay for the device and left aid $24,000, and pay for the specialist fees over 2 years of $5400. If I any funds over this I would like to support a deaf charity.
