Helping Louise O'Connor

  • UPDATE ON GIVE A LITTLE PAGE HAPPENINGS.

      22 June 2016

I am delighted to tell you that the Give a little total is a remarkable & wonderful $6645. A very pleasing & overwhelming amount The Support Louise O'Connor Give a Little Fundraising page was to close this evening, Sunday 19th June. However at this time we have not met our objective of raising sufficient funds to purchase the Wheelchair or any other piece of equipment. The lightweight folding wheelchair is the initial priority.

Consequently Team Louise & Supporters met & discussed this at length & put forward to Louise a proposal. We left our suggested proposal with Louise for you to consider, reflect on and come to a decision. I know Louise gave this deep thought and did not come to a decision quickly or lightly. But I and the Team are extremely pleased and delighted decision. Team Louise & supporters proposed that Helping/Supporting Louise O'Connor give a little page be kept open with an extended flexible time frame.

We received many positive indicators, comments and late developments that gave us cause to believe now the appropriate time to close the page. Developments that occurred in the last 2 weeks helped us come to this decision. These developments will be revealed to you with time but include wide sharing of Louise journey publicly via the media.

We wish to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your generous, caring support of Louise. We thank every group or individual who has the donated with great heart to support Louise O'Connor. We would also like to thank all we continue to support Louise and journey with her.

On Friday evening I was at Louise's home and we chatting and just having a catch up when Louise shared with me the following comment which I would like to share with you.

She said, ‘’I have always loved travelling, even as a child on my bike, all my life I have loved to travel, no matter the trip. But as a traveller the greatest journeys I went on were always with a traveling companion. Whether it was with family, friends or even a book, they were more special with a traveling companion.’’

Wise words, words from Louise. She does not ask for our support, she needs it and so deeply values and appreciates it. Thank you fellow traveller for sharing the journey for being a traveling companion.

  • GIVE A LITTLE GAIN A LOT!

      21 June 2016

In the short time since my page was created I have come to learn much about life, living & especially people.

My Give a Little page was Initiated by one person, Glyn MacLean, who inspired others to come together with the objective of raising some funds to buy equipment for me especially a particular wheelchair, as I was ineligible for funding. Led by Christine Roberts, a lifelong friend, under the title Team Louise, a group of people United and stood for and with me. The initiation of this alone was humbling, overwhelming and a great honour. But little did I know then the dynamic power and impact for good, more widespread than money Give a Little was to have in my life in the lives of others. Givealittle is an amazing life changer, is a beacon of hope, and humanity in action. The effect it has had on me, to date, and I have not received my wheelchair or funds at this time, is immeasurable, permanent and difficult to express in words.

The title of Give A Little is inclusive, dignified and embraces all people. It is very much more than money and donations and the real benefits givealittle are intangible. For me it is about wholeness and wellness and has actively contributed to my well-being and health. Give A Little, Gain a lot more then you can imagine.

Throughout my adult life I have been involved in education and teaching yet on the public page titled helping/ supporting Louise O'Connor I have been the pupil, here I have learnt much that will forever be a part of me.

I am aware that there is a long way to go to meet desired objectives but regardless of the outcome I can confidently tell you the gain has been great. People matter, life is people, no person is an island & similar phrases come to my mind when I stop and reflect on the game and the impact.
