Chuckles Ride

  • Team Chuckles - Round the Bays 2014

      3 March 2014

A huge shout out must got to the awesome Team Chuckles who raised $500 (some has been given as cash donations) towards Chuckles Ride by running in Wellington Round the Bays on February 23rd. Charlie and I also took part much to the delight of most of the children who enjoyed running alongside Charlie's well decorated wheel chair. Over the summer Charlie has been working hard learning some new tricks like crawling (woohoo!) he has had a fantastic time finding new places to discover and textures to explore. His major goal this year is to stand and walk (with a frame but independently) which would give him better access in the classroom when he starts school late next year. We have been loving taking Charlie out and about more to do things like geocaching (www.geocaching.com) and playing at the splash down pad in Raumati, I think this will be an exciting yer for him full of possibilities. Thanks for your support and keep an eye out for more fundraisers in the coming weeks. Lydia xxx

  • Update for 16/10/2013

      16 October 2013

Wow! I can't believe it has been nearly a year since my last update. We have had some news regarding Charlie's mutation, at this stage although he remains undiagnosed the genetics team believes he has Genitopatellar Syndrome. This syndrome is so rare that there is only about a dozen known cases of it world wide. It is highly probable that the geneticists are correct but it will take a few years to be sure due to the testing that will be requred. Charlie has been really enjoying Playcentre this year as he now has an Education Support Worker who helps him to access areas of play that he couldn't before. He has been working hard with his walking frame and can now walk a short distance with some help :D we are so excited! We are still on the wait list for RDA and still need to raise funds for him to be able to go on a regular basis once he begins but I am pleased to say thank you to all who have helped us to raise funds towards this cost so far. The money received is enough for his first term of RDA and we were able to buy some small items that have helped him in his daily life also. Charlie has now got a lovely new buggy (paediatric wheelchair) thanks to the CCDHB/Enable loans scheme that he will have the use of until he upgrades to a power chair. It has been life changing for him and he now sits much taller and straighter than ever before seen as he spends less time in his day slouching. Thanks again everybody and please check out the new photos from the year so far. Lydia xx
