Clyde Tennis Club - Facilities Upgrade

$1,625 of $21,000 goal
Given by 18 generous donors in 11 weeks

The Clyde Tennis Club is an integral part of the Clyde community and only requires $21,000 to finalise a full upgrade of our facilities.

Otago

Clyde Tennis Club is one of the oldest tennis clubs in New Zealand (established circa 1877) and our current courts (which were last updated in the mid 1990s) are well past their use by date. Our courts are a vital component of the Clyde community and the Clyde sporting precinct and are used by members, the local Clyde Primary School, the Clyde camp ground and an increasing number of visitors to the area.

We are undertaking an ambitious $248,500 upgrade to our facilities and thanks to the generous sponsorship of Central Lakes Trust, Otago Community Trust and the Central Otago District Council coupled with our own fundraising over the past five years we are but a fraction away from our goal of bringing the complex back to new by resurfacing the courts and installing new modern environmentally friendly LED lighting.

The modernisation of our facilities with a new astroturf surface and new LED lighting will provide 15 - 20 years of year round ongoing enjoyment for the community both young and old.

$21,000 is all we need to complete the funding and to get the contractors onsite and underway! We anticipate that work will commence within the next two months with the project being completed by the end of this year!

No donation is too small and your donation may be tax deductible as Clyde Tennis Club is a Registered Charity as well as an Incorporated Society.

Thank you for your valued support.

Update #3  13 October 2018

Hi Folks

Below is an update on where things are at with our new tennis courts.

We have four main providers;

· Fulton Hogan, who will be responsible for the tennis court base preparation, lighting foundations and cable trenching.

· TigerTurf Auckland, who are responsible for the manufacture of the courts (TigerTurf Tournament 1000 - https://tigerturf.com/nz/tournament-1000) and the installation of the courts.

· Rexel Lighting, who are responsible for the provision of the LED lights and 10m poles.

· Aotea Electrical, who are responsible for our electrical compliance, cabling work and installation of the LED lights onto the 8 poles.

Our current position is that we have secured sufficient funds to commit to the resurfacing and lighting of the courts although we continue to look for additional funding as there will be unforeseen costs. We have signed up with the providers and work is underway in the following:

· Making of the courts – this is being done by Tigerturf at their factory in Onehunga, Auckland

· The 24 LED lights (consisting of 576 individual LED lamps) have been ordered from Europe

· The eight 10m lighting poles have been ordered and are being constructed

· The foundation plans for the lighting poles are being finalised with the civil engineers for a building permit to be obtained

Due to commitments by Tigerturf both in manufacturing the courts and court installations that they are already undertaking and with the onset of the Christmas break our courts will not be able to be laid on site until mid-February. Once our courts are manufactured they still require to be transported from Auckland to Clyde and Tigerturf require their staff to come from Auckland to Clyde to do the installation. In addition Fulton Hogan lose a considerable number of people to holidays in the December/January period making the co-ordination of people, delivery of product and timings and our reliance on 3rd parties make it near on impossible to commit to a pre-Christmas date for completion. Run overs and the unavailability of product on site due to the Christmas/New Year period could expose the tennis club to significant financial risk in what is already a tightly budgeted project.

We are now anticipating this will mean that the existing courts will be lifted from around the end of the 1st week in February followed by:

· The manufactured courts arriving on site ready for installation.

· The light poles arriving on site (in the next few weeks)

· The required kiln dried sand arriving on site

· LED lamps arriving on site

· The final base surface clean up, the asphalting of the volleyboard area, trenching, cabling and foundation work for the light poles can occur.

· A new power feed to the tennis club will be established from Sunderland Street

· The light poles and lights will be erected and a preliminary lamp set done

· The Tigerturf installers will come from Auckland and do the installation and commissioning work.

We should by the end of February beginning of March have the work completed and signed off.

Thank you for your patience – it has been a long road but one that will be well worth the wait!
