Building new music communities throughout Aotearoa. We're supporting communities, self confidence, and wellbeing through music education.

Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui

Our vision is to see a thriving network of rural rangatahi learning and making music together. Our organization was established to support professional music education, kaiako deliver immersive one-day music wānanga to rural rangatahi, inspiring tauira to continually engage in and seek out musical opportunities. In so doing we hope to support the well-being of our often isolated young people in rural communities. Making and learning music together builds community and supports feelings of belonging, self-confidence, and hauora. Our hope is that through music wānanga, we can establish the necessary creative and pedagogical foundations for an upsurge of music-learning and music-making amongst rural rangatahi. Ultimately, we aim to foster life-long journeys of musical creation and nurture the growth of new musical communities across rural Aotearoa.

We are targeting rangatahi in regional towns and rural locations who lack the kinds of music-learning and music-making opportunities afforded to most rangatahi in urban centres. Our music tutors will travel to rural kura with the musical equipment (provided by us) to lead a full day music wānanga with a group. Our tutor will provide coaching on how to play and make music together in a small rock-band format. Tauira will gain the experience of what it feels like to learn and make music in a rock-band format with their peers. Students will also create a professional sounding recording of a song they have workshopped throughout the day.

Use of funds

We will be travelling to many schools in the central north island and require a vehicle that our tutors can use to get to said schools, the funds raised here will assist in enabling us to pay for the vehicle to do this.
