Karl’s Blood Glucose Monitor Fund

$1,274 of $10,000 goal
Given by 17 generous donors in around 3 months

Any donations are greatly appreciated to help Karl manage his health and continue being the amazing husband and Dad that he is.

Canterbury

Our grandson-in-law Karl has dealt with ongoing health issues since aged 12. Initially diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, followed by diagnosis of hyperthyroidism at 14 and then nephrotic syndrome at age 23.

He has managed his diabetes and kidneys well throughout the years but has lately been very ill.

He has been fitted with a continual blood glucose monitor (Freestyle Libre). This device has single-handlely changed management of his diabetes. Usually, he tests his blood glucose by pricking his finger, drawing blood and waiting to see the result. Sometimes upwards of 10 tests a day. These tests, while helpful, are just not as informative as a continual monitoring system.

The benefits of being able to see his blood glucose and being able to adjust insulin doses are tremendous. He has been provisionally approved for an insulin pump with funding, but, the blood glucose monitor is not funded at all.

The monitor uses a sensor patch on his arm. These sensors last for 14 days and then require a new one. Each sensor costs just under $100.

Karl works full-time to support his family but $50 a week on top of everything else is just too hard.

Our goal is to raise enough money to pay for these sensors for Karl.

Use of funds

We are aiming for 4 years supply of the sensors and if we suceed, we would like to be able to fund other diabetics for this wonderful device.
