Cooking to bring inclusion, connectedness, pride and achievement

I've met sick and vulnerable children under care in Auckland, I will now travel to the regions & bring my cooking passion to their schools.

Nationwide

Having met sick and vulnerable children whilst they are under care in Auckland, I have promised to travel to the regions and bring my passion for cooking to them at their schools. I believe that the cooking events I have already offered at some schools have had an extraordinary impact for children, parents and teachers alike. My plans for April are a pilot program to be able to put together action for a long term plan.

All children are able to identify with creating something to eat. Communication is around the process of cooking, which is fun and engaging. This is a process that doesn't require the same language skills as each other, nor the same mental abilities. This is an event that is completely inclusive and motivating for all. I love to inspire and watch children excited over their opportunity to be hands on in creating a healthy snack for themselves, whilst interacting with their cohort in a positive environment.

The initial schools I plan to visit are attended by children who have needed serious treatment at Starship Hospital in Auckland, and who's families have been housed at Ronald McDonald House Auckland. I will provide all the necessary arrangements with the schools, ensure ingredients and utensils are available for all children to have a hands-on experience.

I have self funded and offered these opportunities in the past but would now like to ask for support from the community so that I can continue to offer these experiences for our children, where all will have an extraordinary experience, learn about great food and attain some life skills too.

I plan to travel to the schools of young students who have been through traumatic surgery, cancer, ongoing vulnerabilities and create an uplifting and inclusive cooking event at their schools to encourage engagement, excitement, learning and acceptance

Use of funds

The money raised will cover expenses on ingredients, utensils and costs incurred to bring the cooking event and experience to a whole school in regional NZ. The money raised in this pledge will be for 4 school events from Whangerai to Napier.

Thank you from all of us  15 May 2018

Thank you to those who donated and assisted me in being able to visit 4 schools during my cookbook tour. This enabled me to reach over 500 children and to to cook hands on with around 180 of them.

Not only were they blown away with the food they were able to create, but they also loved the opportunity to ask me questions about my travels and my time on Master Chef as a finalist.

I could not have done this without such wonderful assistance and funding.

THANKS FROM ALL OF US
