Sincerest thanks to our volunteers and 1 paid staff member for their hard work during the month of July.

With the generosity of our food rescue sponsors KCA was able to redistribute over 33 tons of food into the Greater Wellington community through our partnership with local foodbanks, schools and community groups.

Our partner agencies also restarted home visits to their clients and we were able to give to them 137 banana boxes of clothing, shoes, linen and homewares.

On the 12th July 2020, we started our big consolidation move into 1 larger warehouse.

I am pleased to announce that as of 20th August we are now under 1 roof. It was a HUGE job and with the assistance of Foodstuffs North Island Transport Division, FMG, Chorus, Tawa Lions, Tawa Rotary, Wellington North Rotary, Singapore Airlines, Accenture, AJ Park (to name a few) who sent corporate volunteers to assist us set up our new warehouse whilst operating business as usual.

Thanks to Sutherland Self Help Trust for their financial support which allowed us to build a brand new chiller and freezer room. Thanks to Wellington Refrigeration for their sponsorship for building the new chiller and freezer room.

Thanks to Dobbins Office Furniture for their donation of office furniture for our warehouse office plus for paying for the electrical work to have a hot water Rheem system installed.

Thanks to our volunteers and other charitable trusts whose funding paid for the fit out and part of our expansion costs. Thanks also to Wellington City Council who contributed funds to pay a few months rent on our warehouse.

In the month of June 2020, our volunteers rescued and redistributed a whopping 33493.38kgs. We also had pallets of pork products donated from Auckland and pallets of apples from Mr Apple in Hawkes Bay.

KCA also distributed 251 banana boxes of winter clothing, shoes, linen, homewares, tumble dryer, car seats, heaters, chrome book to families working with our various partner agencies.

At present KCA is assisting approx 10,000 residents in the Greater Wellington region.

A few weeks before the election the pay subsidy available to employers will finish. KCA expects to see another influx of families requiring assistance.

Please assist us to continue vital work that we are doing as many of our funding streams are no longer available due to Covid-19.

    THANKS

  • Update as of 6th June 2020

      6 June 2020

In the month of May our 12 volunteers and 1 paid staff rescued and redistributed nearly 33.5 tons of food which fed nearluy 7,500 people across the Greater Wellington region.

Based on last financial's year output KCA is able to redistribute food and non-food at a mere 40c per kg.

We distribute stock to 71 partner agencies for free and we don't sell anything that is donated to us.

We have seen a huge increase of requests from our partner agencies asking us to assist their clients with food, feminine hygiene and toiletries.

With alert 2 being reviewed on Monday by the NZ goverment our volunteers are excited about returning to work at KCA.

Many of our partner agencies will recommence home visits with their clients so our non-food operations will be super busy trying to catch up on orders.

We still need your help to allow us to continue the work that we do if you financially support.

We need approximately $93,000 per annum to operate as many of our funding streams are only operating at limited or not at all.

For some companies the next round of redundancies are looming with the change in wage subsidy being offered by the government.

    We still need your help.

In the month of April and May our volunteers rescued and redistribute nearly 72 tonnes of food to our partner agencies.

Unfortunately our chiller truck needs some repairs on it. Without this work being done we it won't pass its COF. We are also finding it a lot harder operating with only 1 truck when we usually have 2 on the road most days.

If you are able to please us by donating a few dollars this will help elevate the cost that we have to pay to North City Diesel.

    THANK YOU

Sincerest thanks to all those who have donated funds to assist us to continue the work that we are doing.

In the 19 days that our bubble skeleton team of volunteers rescued food we redistributed a whopping 43.2 tons of food into the Greater Wellington community through our partner agencies.

Some of these agencies were Soup Kitchen Wellington, The House of Grace, Newlands Foodbank, Challenge 2000.

Our sincerest thanks to Karori business man Monty Patel who donated us a whopping 10 tons of rice as we were trying to purchase in food stocks of items that we don't rescue a lot of.

We are still hoping to source and purchase in pasta, toothpaste, toothbrushes to name a few items.

    Thanks everyone and stay safe.

Thank you to those of you who have donated funds to our charity. We still need your help to continue with our food rescue operations.

We will be using the funds to purchase feminine hygiene products and non-perishable food such as breakfast cereals, soup etc for the local agencies that we support.

  • 9th April - Easter Update

      9 April 2020

    Thanks for reading this update.

In the 7 days that we have been food rescuing in April we have seen a huge increase with the generosity of food being donated by various sponsors. We have 2 refrigerated trucks on the road going to supermarkets and food manufacturing companies between Khandallah and Porirua region.

We also have sponsors donating food from Palmerston North and further afield for us to distribute to the local foodbanks in the Greater Wellington to feed families struggling with no income.

As we aren't allowed to have any contact with the various partner agencies that normally collect from us we are delivering the foodstock to the local foodbanks directly.

This means that we have additional operating costs as we have so far rescued and distributed what we would normally do in 1 month in 7 days in April.

We would like to wish you and your family a happy Easter. Please stay safe an stay in your bubble.

Please go to our Facebook page to see the photos of all the food rescued and redistributed in April 2020.
