Create a Place to Exchange Japanese Tea Culture in Auckland

$600 of $15,000 goal
Given by 7 generous donors in around 5 months

Seeking warm hearts to assist cultural exchange! A small Japanese Tea ceremony group is struggling with getting a place to practice!

Auckland

We are a small tea ceremony group called TEKIJUNKAI. We have been gradually working to introduce Japanese culture in New Zealand for the past five years. Until a few years ago, we had a tea room in Auckland which we were allowed to use as a practice space. However, unfortunately, the building has now been sold and we have no place in Auckland. As you know, Tea ceremony is a quintessential tradition of Japanese culture, but without a place to experience and introduce it, we cannot meet the demand for cross-cultural exchange in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand.

We have been looking for a place with a Japanese-style room for years since we lost the previous one and have been unable to find one. Finally we realized that we had no choice but to organize one ourselves!

Our plans are modest with no big plans to buy a site nor build a building. Our hope is just that we can get a tea room set-up in a building somewhere and somehow be able to practice there. If we can do that, then we can introduce the tea ceremony and other aspects of Japanese culture to the people of Auckland and its suburbs, as we have done in the past. This would make it a base for them to enjoy and deepen exchanges with each other.

Although we are a small group, we are also the officially accredited international public service contact point for the headquarters of OMOTOSENKE school of tea in Kyoto, Japan.

We would deeply and sincerely appreciate your understanding and warm support.
