Cycling for Education! 200km for school fees!
Lake Hāwea, Otago
At the End of May, I'm going to be doing my longest cycle to date - 200km over two days, to raise funds to help provide education to children at Mercy Children's Home in Nepal.
After falling off my bike a few years ago and fracturing my elbow - I said I'd never get on a bike that wasn't a spin bike again.... after a few years of building confidence I'm excited to do something that will be a mental and physical challenge while raising money for some gorgeous kids! A ride that will be a gentle reminder of how blessed so many of us NZ are to be educated - a gift many children sadly aren't given. And a reminder that we CAN touch a child's life and give them an opportunity for hope!
Mercy Children’s Home has been running since 2012, and was formally registered with the Women’s and Children’s Welfare Board of Nepal in 2013. The home is one of the ministries of Mercy Nepal, a locally-founded NGO. The founders of this organisation began the home to provide a family-like and caring environment for children with no parents, or who have a critical family situation. It is aimed that the children are cared for in a way that they flourish mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and that they become independent and responsible adults who are leaders in their community. The home now has 15 children.
The school fees for the children are coming up - all money raised will go towards their education for this year.
Every dollar is a gift ! With much love and gratitude xx
Children's Mercy Home holds a special place in my heart after visiting Nepal, and hearing the stories of the home from my cousin Julia who spent some time living there.
