Hawkes Bay Mountainbike Club needs your help to repair trails and replace trail building tools lost
Eskdale, Hawke's Bay
Valentines day 2023 will never be forgotton.
The Hawkes Bay region was directly hit by Cyclone Gabrielle with particular areas more so hit than others. The damage to the district, and in particular Esk Valley, where our mtb parks are located was something we could not believe.
Post the water subsiding, the initial inspection of the Main Park reported that EVERY track, approx. 75km of established trails, was impacted with land slips and/or trees littering the tracks, which as you can appreciate, will take a significant amount of time and effort to reinstate. At present, HB MTB have no tracks in the Pan Pac MTB trail network that are rideable.
In addition to the trails being badly damaged, we also seemed to have lost a container that stored ALL of our trail building tools and equipment. We believe it was washed out to sea (potentially heading to Chatham Islands) and we have lost everything. Our high viz tops, hand tools, to our motorized wheelbarrow. It's all gone.
Getting our MTB community back out on their bikes is a priority for the Club . We know we have passionate people waiting who will roll up their sleeves and start the rebuild, we just need the tools and funding to enable both our volunteers and paid track builders to get things moving. We all know that our bikes bring us that much needed ‘joy’ during times of difficulty! We need our park back!!
We would appreciate any support you can offer and hope, in time, you can head to HB and ride the trails you have supported.
Replacement of trail building tools, container and repair of 75km trail network in our MTB park.
Plan going forward 28 June 2023
Thanks so much for your support. These funds are being used to purchase our new trail tools as we have finally been allowed to access back to carry on with working bees in the Waipunga block.
AGM next week so will let everyone know what is happening and if/when we can welcome you back to Eskdale mtb park!!
