We're holding 'Dance for David' to support his family during his heart transplant at Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital
Canterbury
David Dirks is a local child who has lived in the Methven community for the past ten years. David was born with a rare cardiac condition that significantly impacts his quality of life on a daily basis, often leading to minimal time at school, no sports and limited participation in social events with friends. David needs a full heart transplant and is active on the New Zealand transplant waiting list.
The Dirks family could receive a phone call at any time to be flown to Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital for David to receive his new heart. David’s mother Becky is his main support and carer and is now no longer in a position to work. Whilst one family member’s flight is funded, there is no funding available for the rest of the immediate family to travel and stay in Auckland when the call comes.
We would like to raise funds to support the family's reasonable travel, accommodation and living costs during this time. Any surplus funds will be donated to Heart kids Canterbury.
In order to help the family, we are engaging as many community groups as possible to hold a ‘Dance for David’. The ‘Jerusalem Dance’ has been a viral internet sensation and our plan is for local Methven community services to come together to do this dance, a 'Dance for David'.
