This page is to provide financial support to Daniel's immediate family as they face the expenses of Daniel's funeral & related expenses.
Beach Haven, Auckland
On Fri Jan 27, 2023, as Auckland faced unprecedented torrential rain, 25 year old Daniel Newth was having fun with friends, kayaking in the flood waters of the Wairau Valley. The strong current swept Daniel away, he suffered a head injury and then failed to surface. His friends desperately searched for him, then raised the alert with emergency services and family. A few hours later his body was found in a flooded car park on Link Drive.
Daniel was a funny, soft hearted loveable young man with an insatiable appetite for adventure.
Daniel’s family and friends are deeply grieving his sudden, unexpected passing.
I ask you to please consider giving what you can to ease the financial burden on Daniel’s family as they prepare for his funeral and the large bill that will follow. There is no pressure whatsoever to give. This is just for those who want to help, don't know what else to do, and feel in a position to give.
Since originally setting up the page, we now realise that an application can also be lodged with ACC for contribution to funeral related expenses when the cause of death was accidental. An application is in process for this.
All who know the Newth family will have experienced their genuine aroha, care, hospitality & humour. For those who are able, let's give back to them now. Thank you in advance for all donations, big and small.
Daniel is the dearly loved son of my cousin, Fiona Newth.
The money will be spent on Daniel's funeral. If additional funds are raised, this will ease some of day to day pressures on Daniel's immediate family as they journey through this incredibly sad time.
Thank you, thank you for supporting Daniel's family. 11 February 2023
To each and every person who has donated, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Daniel's passing is an utter tragedy and he leaves a massive hole in the lives of so many people, in particular his family and closest friends.
Because of your giving, finances at least are will not add to the stress of Daniel's family. They are keen to reimburse those who incurred expenses and will prudently use the funds you generously gave.
In the end, over $18,000 was given. Give a little need to keep 5% for the cost of running the platform, paying staff etc. I think that is perfectly reasonable.
Thank you again.
Arohanui.
