Daniel Patino Albero from Spain, who has worked on the rebuild of this wonderful city passed away unexpectedly last week. Daniel has been living and working on the Christchurch rebuild for the last 4 years.
Daniel was a very keen scuba diver, he loved hiking, swimming, snow boarding and generally any outdoor activities, his curious and adventurous nature meant he had travelled to many parts of the world, he was an extremely brave and courageous person, who was also very kind to everyone he met and as such had loads of friends from everywhere he went.
Daniels partner, Catherine, is devastated at Daniels sudden passing. Catherine is from is from the UK and has also been in Christchurch for 4 years. Cat as she is more commonly know among friends has been in a serious relationship with Daniel for 2.5 years, they were very much in love.
Even though Daniel has been living here in New Zealand for 4 years, Spain will always be home to him and it would be his wish to be buried there.
His partner Catherine and his many friends in Christchurch are hoping to raise sufficient funds to enable Catherine to take Daniel back to his home in town in Spain. This is a lot more expensive than buying a flight ticket as Daniel's body will have to travel in the hold, in a hermetically sealed casket, his body will need to be embalmed and there are lots of other regulations that will add extra cost to this.
If you can help at all it will be much appreciated and it is only fitting that we help the family at this time as Daniel has been so willing to help rebuild Christchurch.
We would also like to thank everyone for their extreme generosity, since setting up the page we have found out that the actual repatriation costs are much less than $40,000, but rest assured any additional funds will be put to good use assisting all affected parties.
I am Catherine , Daniels partner ad I will do everything I can to ensure Daniel is laid to rest in his home town.
All funds raised will be use to help Catherine take Daniel's body back to Spain to be buried in his homeland.
