We spent 41 days in Christchurch with Darcy’s care being delivered by Christchurch Hospital.

We’ve now received the results of Darcy’s first round of chemo drug therapy — the “induction” phase — and we’re so relieved to share that he is responding positively.

Round 2 of his chemo began this week in Christchurch, and then……we headed home on Wednesday to transfer Darcy’s care to Wellington Hospital.

It has been bittersweet. Christchurch has been our safe little bubble — a place of care, kindness, and support during one of the hardest times of our lives. We’re beyond grateful for the incredible team at Christchurch Hospital and the beautiful people at Ronald McDonald House who’ve looked after us so well. But we are glad to be home and back with friends and family.

We know this is still very much the beginning of Darcy’s journey. We have a 2.5-year treatment plan ahead of us, and there’s a long road to walk — but for now, we’re holding on to the good news, and looking forward to being home.

Thank you everyone who supported us when we were away from home. We needed every bit of help we got. It’s been so so tough. We are all feeling it and stress levels are still high.

Darcy is so great. Hes doing really well. Hes tired and quiet but he’s so accepting of this situation and so compliant. He listens and learns to everything happening around him. We are so proud of him.

We will keep you all updated as treatment continues. Xx

    Update on Darcy 💙

Darcy and his family have been in Christchurch for three weeks as Darcy begins his treatment for leukemia. They feel as though they’ve become displaced refugees, living out of bags in tiny one-room spaces, trying to adjust to this completely new reality far from home.

Treatment is on track, however they’re learning very quickly that treating leukemia is not a linear path. It’s full of ups, downs, and unexpected challenges. In just these first couple of weeks, Darcy has already had to battle a staph infection and manage new-onset diabetes as part of the treatment side effects.

They’re taking it one day at a time. Your love, support, and messages mean more than they can express.

As Darcy's treatment is funded, all funds raised will go towards medical related costs such as travel to the hospital, accommodation, and food.

Thank you so much for your support.
