Help Dee spend his remaining time after a rare, aggressive cancer diagnosis with family at home and cover medical and care costs.

Auckland

David 'Dee' was recently diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer at the age of 30 years old. This specific cancer rendered him tetraplegic within 4 days after the first symptom presented. The cancer is a mutation and worldwide there are minimal survivors past the one-year mark.

We are fundraising to facilitate Dee's being able to come home, for the time he has remaining, as there is little to no government assistance due to it not being an accident, (i.e. wider access doorways, ramps, bathroom alterations, etc.), and to also help the family with medical costs and to provide for him at home as some of the family will be giving up their full-time work to be able to care for him on a roster system. But, in the immediate short term (weeks) to be able to fund to put him into a private care facility as he requires 24/7 assistance (due to being tetraplegic), while the home is being readied. In doing so this will allow for Dee to spend the remaining time he has with his young son in the comfort of a home rather than a hospital room.

I am the Director of Fyfe Kitchens Ltd. Dee has worked for Fyfe's for 15 years since he was fresh out of high school. He is a long-term friend and part of the wider Fyfe's family.

Use of funds

Home alterations, medical costs, and specialist transport costs to and from appointments. Short term to get him in a private care facility as he needs 24/7 assistance, till the home is prepped.

Dee Home For Christmas  27 December 2023

With the help of your donations we were able to get a wider access door in, and a ramp to the front door to bring Dee home for Christmas with his family. Dee had a wonderful Christmas at home surrounded by family and loved ones.

He has undergone his first round of radiotherapy with no ill side effect as of the moment.

We still have a long way to go in the new year with the bathroom and back access ramp, but the progress so far is looking good.

None of this would have been possible without the immense support we have received here and for that we are incredibly grateful. Thank you to everyone who’s contributed in some way large or small whether financially or physically every bit counts.
