19th dec 2014.. 6yr old Deanna was diagnosed with cancer in her right femoral bone.
Nelson / Tasman
The last day of the school term is when most children and family are celebrating; looking forward to the holiday break together. No so for Deanna and her family…
On December 19th Deanna found herself at Nelson Hospital with a sore leg after bumping into something and falling over. But it was what they found in the x-rays that same day which was particularly concerning; a cancerous tumour in the bone of her right leg!
A particular aggressive form of cancer, the doctors and family didn’t want to waste anytime and Deanna was in Christchurch for a M.R.I scan for the 22nd of December. Mother, Diane said, “She was so brave staying still for so long. She is such a strong awesome girl.”
Deanna will now undergo 6 months of chemotherapy at the highest level, before having surgery. She will then have more chemotherapy and hopefully be able to have a cancer free christmas. The main aim for this site is to help with costs like travel and the prosthetic limb she will require after the surgery.
