A recent doctoral graduate seeks help in salvaging a career after government cuts slam the door on all humanities funding.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Collins earned her nickname by crushing cars. Apparently that wasn't enough - now she crushes careers.
For the last six years I have laid the groundwork for a career in research - specifically focused on finding ways to turn aside from the polarizing conflicts that have infected thought in the West. During my doctorate, I have made significant progress towards a cure for the pervasive idea that this conflict is somehow necessary. The work has been received with excitement and a universal encouragement to continue the project and publish the research. First step: Seek out research funding.
Except that is no longer an option.
Our government has unilaterally cut off the humanities from the only source of public funding available to us. I am no longer permitted even to compete in the 'marketplace of ideas'.
So I have three choices. 1) Abandon my career. 2) Accept exile offshore. 3) Ask for help.
This is option 3.
Our current government may not value the humanities, but I refuse to believe that they speak for the public on this. So I have resolved to come to the public directly. Help me to offer an alternative to endless conflict and competition. Help me aspire to success, as our government always claimed we should.
The target represents the value of a Marsden Fast Start Grant, but every little bit will help. $5000 would get me started. $60000 would let me publish the initial theory.
If you want to judge the worth of the work yourself, please do. I've provided a link to my thesis below.
Any funds raised will go towards research, access to contemporary journals, travel, office space and materials, collaboration and conferences, and a basic salary. Should funding fall short, I will publish as much as I can in the hope that others pick up the ideas and carry the work forward. Just starting the conversation would be a success.
Much appreciated!
