Denise & Jacki are going to the UK to learn from the experts. These learnings will be brought back to NZ to ensure less babies are harmed.
Nationwide
Babies are being harmed by antiepileptic medicines without wahine being given informed consent, and we know that without making legislative changes here in New Zealand we are not going to get effective change.
So Denise and Jacki are going to the United Kingdom to meet with the change makers, who contributed to getting reviews done by looking into sodium valproate during pregnancy, and successfully achieved legislative change. These learnings will be brought back to New Zealand to (hopefully) ensure less babies are harmed.
Denise and Jacki both have children affected by antiepileptic exposure during pregnancy, so they need your help. Currently they (or should I say the bank!) are funding this trip themselves, which is how you can help. Please donate and help Denise and Jacki make history!
Foetal Anti-Convulsant Syndrome New Zealand has been set up to offer support, education, awareness and prevention advice to GPs and specialists, and families alike, about the effects of antiepileptic medicines and the effects on unborn babies. It is also a place where people, families, communities and interested parties, who have been affected by the antiepileptic medication during pregnancy, can come for support and education.
The funds will be used to cover some of the travel and accommodation costs for Denise and Jacki. Currently the trip is being fully funded by bank loans that we would like to keep as small as possible, as both of them have children affected by FACS.
