Desperate Fathers plea for Urgent Help

A desperate father seeks urgent help for his daughter's life-saving care after severe diabetic sepsis left her overseas.

International

My name is GuruDayal. I am 75 years old, retired, and my only income is my pension. I am writing with deep humility to ask for support with the urgent medical bills for my daughter, Ashika Devi Dayal, aged 38.

Ashika developed severe diabetic foot sepsis in Fiji after a suture was left inside her wound, causing a serious infection. Since then, she has been taken to theatre three times. She was discharged with a 20 cm x 5 cm wound on her left foot, with exposed bone and tendon.

CWM Hospital discharged her home, but our family feared for her life. We arranged urgent care at MIOT Hospital, and she was meant to arrive there on 5 June. Sadly, while in transit at Hong Kong Airport, she developed serious medical complications and was rushed by ambulance to Princess Margaret Hospital.

She is now admitted in Hong Kong and undergoing extensive tests and treatment. We are grateful she is in safe hands, but the bills are overwhelming because she is an international patient.

The funds raised will help cover her hospital bills, tests, treatments, surgery, medication, wound care, travel and accommodation.

I am a 75-year old father asking for help I never imagined I would need.

Any support, no matter how small, will help give my daughter a chance to survive, heal and return home safely.

Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support during this difficult time.

GuruDayal,

Father of Ashika Devi Dayal

Father's plea for urgent help  22 July 2026

To our family, friends, and everyone who has supported Ashika,

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to express our deepest and most sincere gratitude to each and every one of you. Your generosity, kindness, prayers, and unwavering support have meant more to our family than words can ever express. We will forever be grateful for your compassion during this incredibly difficult time.

We would also like to provide an update on Ashika's condition. Ashika remains admitted at MIOT Hospital in Chennai, India. She arrived at the hospital with multiple serious complications and had to undergo an urgent above-knee amputation. While this has been an extremely challenging journey, we are thankful to share that Ashika is now stable and is slowly making progress.

Due to her other medical complications, her recovery will take time, but we remain hopeful and optimistic. If all continues to go well, we are hoping to bring Ashika back home to Fiji in September 2026.

Your continued prayers, encouragement, and support give us strength every day. Thank you for standing with our family through this journey. We are truly blessed to have such caring and compassionate people in our lives.

With our heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation,

Ashika's Family

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
