This year Diabetes Youth Taranaki (DYT) are very excited to put forward their first team to enter the renowned Taranaki Steelformer’s Around the Mountain Relay. Team DYT will be made up of youth runners and walkers with Type 1 Diabetes, supported by friends and family members and other community role models with Type 1.
Our main aim is to raise the profile of DYT in Taranaki, give our tamariki a forum to showcase just how capable they are and to show them that they are also part of something bigger than themselves. We want to encourage our tamariki to not let the barrier of Type 1 Diabetes keep them from living an active, healthy life. To motivate and inspire the kids we have recruited the help of one of the Diabetes NZ Type 1 Ambassadors - cyclist Stephanie McKenzie. We are very excited and grateful to welcome Steph to our team to help us achieve our aims.
DYT is a volunteer organisation, run solely on the time donated by its volunteer coordinators and financial donations obtained through fund raising events such as this. We at DYT want to continue to support the families in the region and offer fun events and activities that bond our kids through peer identification and allow them to grow in confidence and self-reliance.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to helping support this important work.
Specifically donations will firstly go towards the costs of entering the team and team t-shirts, with any surplus being used to fund events such as our annual DYT Camp
Donations will go towards the costs of entering the team and team t-shirts.
