Dollars for dreams - a Cultural Conversations Fundraising Campaign

Cultural Conversations is an arts-based cultural hub in the Whākatu Nelson CBD, where people from different ethnicities meet, lead, create, learn, upskill and feel a sense of belonging and social cohesion in a safe, welcoming environment.

The Global Stitch Up is our social enterprise which allows women from diverse backgrounds

to;

- Feel safe, empowered and less socially isolated.

- Upskill but also learn from each other’s cultural traditions.

- Practise English as so many only attend courses for 3 months.

- Meet people from different ethnic groups.

- Gain business independence, experience and responsibility.

- Become wage earners by selling their products in our space and online.

We are crowdfunding because we got the sudden news that the building we are in is not safe. We can't offer a space for our community if the building is not meeting safety standards, so we are fundraising to move and pay rent for the first time. We have been very lucky to occupy empty retail spaces for 4 years but see this as an opportunity to start a tenancy and need a bit of community spirit to help us on our way.
