A double marathon challenge in support of the Physical Assistance Centre.
Hamilton, Waikato
The Physical Assistance Centre (PAC) is a centre based at Hillcrest High School in Hamilton. The aim of the PAC is to enable students, to the best of their ability, to have a mainstream experience of academic school life with involvement and participation in all other school activities. Support within the centre provides alternative academic programmes and activities when full participation in the mainstream is not possible.
Despite the best efforts of staff to provide students with as many opportunities and experiences as possible, many barriers frequently get in the way, with transport for students who use wheelchairs being a recurrent one. This makes taking students on trips challenging and frequently requires the help of parents, and the use of their own accessible vehicles.
I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to participate in two of the world’s most iconic events, the Boston Marathon and the London Marathon in April 2024. Taking part in just one of these events is a massive challenge, however I will be running both, just six days apart. It will be a huge physical and mental challenge but one I feel privileged to do in order to support an incredible group of young people.

Funds raised will go towards the purchase of a mobility van. Having a mobility van will increase student independence and enable them to participate in activities outside the classroom like those of their able bodied peers.
