Hadfield House Fundraising for Duffy Books in Homes
Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui
The Alan Duff Charitable Foundation, better known as Duffy Books in Homes, is a literacy program aimed at breaking the cycle of booklessness among children at schools in some lower socio-economic areas throughout New Zealand. The not-for-profit organisation places free, brand-new books in children’s hands through early childhood learning centres, schools and their libraries. Not only does the issue of illiteracy affect the volume of youths who might succeed in university study, but it also extends to other career paths. “If you want to be a plumber or a mechanic, you still need to be literate and numerate,” says Henry.
Hadfield House is raising funds in the week of 8th to 14th May to provide funding to local Whanganui Schools so that Whanganui Children have access to books. The boys will be visiting local schools to be Big Buddy readers (donating the book that they read to the class) as well as completing reading challenges throughout the week in the house. Please sponsor these boys to make a difference in our community.

$13.56 per child is the cost to fund Duffy Books in a school for the year. We want to fund as many children as possible in our local community.
WOW!!! 26 May 2023
Thank you to all that got behind Hadfield House in their efforts to raise funds for Duffy Books in Homes. The total raised was $6800. This creates the ability for all Whanganui Schools to receive Hadfield House as their funding partner. We are in the process of finalising invoices and generating payments. What an amazing community we have. Ka mau te wehi.
