Otago
Flashback to The NZ Junior Rugby Festival 2019....
The boys from the Thresher Sharks representing the Dunedin Junior Rugby Football Club won the Best & Fairest Team Award for the Under 10 Grade back in 2019, not only this they lead the way both on and off the field and won the overall sportsmanship award for the Queenstown event. They set the benchmark for playing the game hard but fair with commitment and desire to take the win. Giving respect to their opposition and understanding that after a tough game of rugby, where they gave their all on the field, whether it be a win, loss or draw we can still come together and be friends and show humility regardless of results. So many other clubs also scored highly in sportsmanship points and really made an effort throughout the weekend. The points table for sportsmanship was judged by the referees and opposition teams.
We believe our team of boys represents a coming together of diversity…. They come from different cultures, backgrounds, schools and friendship groups but they come together always as one when they are on the field. They are all really proud of their team and represent their club well!!
Along with the pride of winning the top prize itself, they were also awarded the following:
• 2 nights’ accommodation for 15 players
• 2 x evening meal at a local restaurant for players and management
• Free entry into the 2020 NZ Junior Rugby Festival (Taupō)
Due to Covid this particular tournament was unable to go ahead. We have now secured a spot for the Taupo Tournament this year (2021).
To go towards getting this team of enthusiastic rugby boys to Taupo to compete in tournament.. Funds will be used towards flights, transport, accommodation & local tourism activities
