Eche’s Journey

  • UPDATE

      20 December 2023
    Main image

On the 15th of December 2023 doctors sat us down to inform us that Eches cancer had spread and is growing quickly. Then followed our worst nightmare in one word “incurable”

We were on ward on the 28/11/23 for an MRI which came back with good news…the tumour had not grown past the 6cm from scans done in September 2023 and that there had been no newly developed cancer … fast forward a little to the 12th of December where we noticed a small lump on Eche’s back which was close to the last protruding tumour but closer to the centre of his spine than the last. We had a repeat MRI on ward on the 14/12/23 which showed a tumour growing on his tail bone area which was growing rapidly. Drs have estimated it is growing at least a cms per week and could pick up the pace or worse keep spreading. With chemo out of the question by Eches choice and the Drs suggestion our boy will received one round of radiation on to try and relieve his pain and the pressure on his nerves to hopefully help keep mobility and quality of life going for a little longer.

Radiation is due on Thursday and then we are hoping to take him home on Friday.

All funds received will now be prioritised on pain meds as well as the meal replacement drinks that are not subsidised. Any extras will go towards Eche to enjoy the days that he has left here with us.

31/3/23:Eche is due to start his 4th round of chemo tomorrow and this cycle will run for a total of 6 days. He is doing as well as he can and has managed to fight off a blood infection caused by his central line while he awaited his port to be inserted (this was completed on the 8th of March) and most recently a fungal infection in his throat caused by the chemo, on top of recovering from chemo it self and his body fighting the cancer so understandably is quiet sick ...and not just sick from the cancer but the chemo trying to do its thing not just killing the cancer but it's trying to kill him too.Chemos not enough on it's own so he will be having 31 consecutive days of radiation starting in May 2023 ... its so hard on him more so with his special needs as his brain is still racing but his body won’t move and to watch this as a mother and not be able to do anything is gut wrenching to say the least. He's now lost his hair which was hard for him and is loosing a little bit more of his independence with every round that passes but we hold tight to the good days in hope that their will be many more.To everyone who's shared this, donated and supported us in anyway shape or form we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and will forever be greatful to everyone who has and still is walking this with me, my boys and our sissy while we stand with Eche so he can draw our mana and strength while he fights the biggest fight of his life.mihi nui kia koe e te whanau/Jazakallah Khair

We have just been told that Eche now only has a 5% chance of survival. With that news came a lot of emotions and it was like hearing the diagnosis all over again. We continue to hold on to that 5% and hope and pray that our boy beats this at this time there’s no words just tears and we are trying to be strong for each other. Again we appreciate everyone who has donated and helped us to stay together during this time. We love you all x

Sorry the update is so late…we have reached 7 rounds of chemo so far and had 3 monthly scans and heard the most promising best news ever.

The tumour was 15 cms upon diagnosis and now is at 6cm Alhamdulillah. Now I know the medicine/chemo helps but I truely believe it was the power of prayer and manifestation 💯. We still have a long way to go with radiation been delayed twice now Eche still needs 7 more rounds of chemo and 31 days of radiation. We have also been able to bring Eche home for the first time and it has done wonders in his healing journey as he had been stuck in the hospital for months. At present he is quite sick with strep throat which has postponed round 8 and the radiation again.

Everyday we are greatful for every little win and hopeful with every additional struggle we face…we are blessed that we have each other and don’t have to face it alone.

From the bottom of my heart to everyone who prayed, messaged, manifested and those who gave donations especially if it wasn’t for you all I wouldn’t have been able to be with my son cos the cost alone is through the roof so again Thank you 🙏 Jazakallah khair

    Kia Ora/Assalaam Alaykum whanau

Just an update, I have removed the goal whanau cos there is no expectation from us but we appreciate everything.

Im Eche’s mum Thomasina for those who don’t know I am a single mum of 6 handsome boys and a beautiful princess.

When we found out about Eche having cancer I never in a million years expected to be doing this and was offered the help of setting up a give a little at that time I never had the time while trying to process what was happening but am now moderating the page so all koha/donations go directly to us as a Whanau.

Big massive mihi out to everyone for their time, support, messages, koha/donations and most of all prayer Alhamdulillah.

Kia Ora e te Iwi/Assalaam Alaykum

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I have been able to take over Eche’s give a little page and and all donations will go directly to my bank account.

Eche is due to start his 4th round of chemo apōpō/tomorrow and this cycle will run for a total of 6 days. He is doing as well as he can and has managed to fight off a blood infection where the big attached it self to his central line while he awaited his port to be inserted (this was completed on the 8th of March) and most recently a fungal infection in his throat caused by the chemo, (Alhamdulillah)on top of recovering from receiving chemo it self and his body fighting the cancer so understandably is quiet sick ...and not just sick from the cancer although he is from that as well but more from the chemo trying to do its thing and not just kill the cancer but it's trying to kill him too which means it's killing the cancer but chemos not enough on it's own so he will be having 31 consecutive days of radiation as well starting in May 2023 ... its so hard on him more so with his special needs as his brain is still racing but his body won’t move and to watch this as a mother and not be able to do anything is gut wrenching to say the least.

He's now lost his hair which was hard for him and is loosing a little bit more of his independence with every round that passes but we hold tight to the good days in hope that their will be many more.

To everyone who's shared this, donated and supported us in anyway shape or form we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and will forever be greatful to everyone who has and still is walking this with me, my boys and our sissy while we stand with Eche so he can draw our mana and strength while he fights the biggest fight of his life.
