In November 2015, Mum and I will fly to Nepal with a group of volunteers to build 100 homes for 100 families in just over one week..
Auckland
The devastating Earthquakes that hit Nepal earlier this year destroyed the homes of so many families. This added to the number of people already living under shelters made from materials such as bamboo and plastic.
Habitat for Humanity is taking a group of volunteers to Nepal to build 100 homes in just over one week.
This will give 100 families, some of whom are currently living in inadequate shelters in freezing temperatures and monsoon rains, a warm, dry home.
Mum and I are going as part of a group - mum will be a team leader, and I will be one of her group members. Our group will build one home for one family.
The cost for each volunteer is $6200, which will include building materials, food, accommodation, and travel.
We will be using bamboo and plaster and will be working every day until the house is finished.
Please check the Habitat NZ website for more details.

We are both taking part in this build, because we feel blessed to have warm, dry homes, running water, and electricity to keep us warm. We would love to give one family at least the simple necessities to make their lives more comfortable. We will be onsite every day, building a bamboo and cement home for one family. This will involve trimming and weaving the bamboo, and packing the cement around the bamboo frame. It will be hard physical work, and many people have no prior experience with building (myself included!). We will be joining a team of about 13 others to help make this happen, with your help :)
