Our friend Emily has experienced the unimaginable tragedy of losing her home in a devastating house fire.
Rolleston, Canterbury
Our friend Emily has experienced the unimaginable tragedy of losing her home in a devastating house fire.
On the 30th July, an electrical fire broke out at her home in Rolleston and, in only a short period of time, destroyed the house and everything inside it. Thankfully, everyone in the home was able to escape safely. However, almost all of Emily’s belongings and furniture were lost in the fire, including irreplaceable photo albums, sentimental items, and clothing that can never truly be replaced.
Emily purchased her home independently on a single income, without a partner or second household income. Like many people buying a home on their own, having boarders helped make the mortgage manageable and allowed her to meet the costs of homeownership. Now that the house is uninhabitable and the boarders can no longer live there, Emily is left carrying those mortgage costs on her income alone, while also dealing with the enormous expense of starting over.
Although the house was insured, it does not come close to covering the full value of everything that was lost inside the home. Emily is now faced with significant out-of-pocket costs to replace basic necessities, clothing, furniture, household items, and the many everyday belongings that were destroyed.
No amount is too small, and every contribution will make a genuine difference. If you aren’t in a position to donate, simply sharing this page would also mean so much.
Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support.
We have been close friends for around 6 years now. Emily is a wonderful friend, and we would love to come together around her and show her just how much support she has during this incredibly difficult time.
