A three month fundraising campaign to help address issues caused by an arson attack
Masterton, Wellington
In February 2025, our church was damaged in an arson attack that shook our parish and wider community. While we are deeply grateful that no one was hurt, the fire has had a lasting impact and has made some essential work unavoidable.
As repairs have progressed, it has become clear that this is a critical time to address a range of exterior maintenance and refurbishment needs for our church and hall. While insurance is covering the major fire-related repairs, it does not extend to much of the wider work now needed to properly protect these buildings and ensure they are cared for well into the future.
With scaffolding already in place and contractors on site, it makes practical and financial sense to complete all exterior work to the same standard now—helping to prevent further deterioration and avoid higher costs later. However, this necessary refurbishment sits beyond what insurance will fund, leaving a significant gap.
To help meet this need, we have paused a planned hall roof replacement and redirected an existing grant toward this work. Even so, further support is needed to ensure the project can be completed properly and sustainably.
This church is more than a building. It is a place of worship, comfort, celebration, and connection for so many. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us care for and protect this special place so it can continue to serve our community for generations to come.
Thank you for standing with us.
