Equity and Attendance initiative- Sunset School

$1,070 of $9,000 goal
Given by 24 generous donors in 8 days

Support 166 amazing tamariki by helping provide school uniforms that build pride, belonging, and attendance.

Rotorua, Bay Of Plenty

At Sunset Primary School in Rotorua, we believe every child deserves to feel proud of who they are and where they belong.

Our 166 tamariki come from a community where many families are facing significant financial hardship. Despite these challenges, our children arrive each day with kindness, resilience, and a determination to learn. They deserve the same opportunities as any other child in New Zealand.

We are introducing a new school uniform that celebrates the identity of our school and reflects the cultures of our Māori and Pasifika learners. More than just clothing, this uniform represents belonging, pride, and connection. It is part of our wider effort to improve wellbeing, strengthen school identity, and increase attendance.

Many of our families simply cannot afford the cost of a new uniform. We do not want any child to miss out because of financial circumstances beyond their control.

Our goal is to raise $29,000 so that every student can receive a full uniform set. Thanks to the incredible support of Rotorua Trust, we have already secured $20,000, but we still need help to close the gap.

Every dollar raised will go directly towards providing uniforms for our tamariki, helping them walk through the school gates feeling proud, included, and ready to learn.

Together, we can ensure every child at Sunset Primary feels they belong.

About us

Sunset Primary School serves 166 amazing tamariki in Rotorua's Fordlands community. Despite significant hardship, our resilient children and dedicated staff work together to create opportunities, inspire success, and build brighter futures.

Use of funds

Funds will provide every Sunset Primary student with a full uniform: two polo shirts, two pairs of shorts, and a warm school jersey. This will ensure all tamariki feel proud, included, and ready to learn, regardless of their family's financial situation.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
