Help support a volunteer‑run clinic providing free medical care to the community in rural Eastern Uganda
Wellington
The Zion Community clinic is NGO, pay IF you can health clinic open to all, run by volunteers located in Mount Elgon, 30km from the Mbale district in Eastern Uganda.
The aim is to tackle the challenges this population faces being isolated including poverty, access to healthcare, education, and many other social determinants of health.
People in this area still die every day from preventable diseases because of lack of education and medication.
This area is of high poverty with low healthcare resources and results in high mortality rates among the community.
95% of the local population survives on less than 50 cents per day, creating severe financial hardship. The clinic volunteer purely out of compassion, often covering operational costs from their own pockets. Their efforts are supported by donations and medical care is always provided to those who cannot afford to pay, ensuring that no one is denied treatment due to financial constraints.
The clinic has begun constructing the first maternity ward in the region, providing mothers with trained medical staff, safe delivery support, and life‑saving care in an area where childbirth remains one of the leading causes of death.
“With the support from volunteers and friends from all over the world, it is finally possible to provide critical aid to the community”
— Peter, Medical Officer of the Zion Clinic
I am a student nurse and will be volunteering with Dr Peter and his team in January/February 2027.
No donations will contribute to personal travel costs - all funds go directly toward supporting the clinic and its patients.
Donations will help to provide the community with medication and vaccinations, upkeep of the clinic and equipment. Donations will also contribute to building materials for the new maternity ward and essential neonatal medical equipment.
Thank you Lourdaiz. We appreciate this so much!
