Wellington
Eva Mcgauley and mother Kate Hardwick of Wellington, NZ need our love and support right now. Eva is 15 and one of the brightest, hardworking, independent and beautiful young women you will ever meet. She was recently been diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and will have to seek treatment in Christchurch. Kate is a chef and will need to be away from work for sometime. At this stressful time we who love these two gorgeous women want to help them breathe a little easier and feel all the love we have for them. Please give a little. It will mean so much.
Eva and Kate are like family to us. Eva and my daughter Gretta have been dear friends since age 6.
Our Trip to see Eva & Kate 26 February 2015
Gretta Jesse and I all went to Christchurch Tuesday to see Kate and Eva. We are happy to report that they are being very well cared for. Eva is very weak from her chemo and tomorrow will start her aggressive radiotherapy to target the actual Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. This will effect much of her taste and smell tear duct and saliva thus making it hard for her to eat soon. A feeding tube may be needed for the duration of that treatment. in short its pretty awful. But I am so happy to report that amazing smile and beautiful sharp wit have gone nowhere. She's not a fighter she's a warrior princess. As we left Christchurch I hugged Eva. This little tiny body still weak from days of chemo wrapped her arms around me and hugged me. This little voice said "thank you" as I kissed her head. It's really me who should have thanked her. I have seen this young woman grow from age 6 to this amazing crazy intellegent outspoken independent young woman of 15. To know the fight she will face in the coming year, to have glimpsed that gives me great perspective. How chemo can ravage a body from the inside to kill the cancer it must destroy many vital balances the body needs. I've always known the amazing bond with Kate but to see it stronger than ever is something I will never ever forget. I am immensely priveleged to know these women. I was so incredibly moved to see jesse and gretta climb into bed with her and didnt leave her till she needed to rest or have a consult. Hearing them laugh and recount hilarious stories and banter was just love and friendship at its purest. Eva is fortunate to have many long lasting friendships and they will no doubt make this trip to see her. If you can do. Give her your time and give her your love. We are forever grateful for the nursing and oncology staff at Christchurch hospital who continue to treat them with such respect and care. And to the many many wee children we saw so very sick I will remember your courage.
