Matt Brown. What a legend. He founded My Fathers Barber in 2012 and regularly volunteers his time cutting hair for Christchurch City Mission. He and Josh volunteered their time to come cut hair for our community, and had this beautiful experience with his 3-year-old son:

"I have found there are always moments in life where if you are looking with your heart seeking to truly see the divine hand in all things, you WILL see God using a specific moment as an opportunity to bring you healing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Yesterday I was honoured with the opportunity to serve out at @_xchc with the amazing Street Wise team alongside my brother @jk_koia cutting up and feeding our city’s less fortunate and homeless- those unfortunately sleeping rough! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

While we were doing our thing, my 3 year old son @angeloubrown stopped painting at the children’s table, came over and all on his own, picked up a brush and started cleaning hair off the capes of the people we were cutting. He consistently and patiently did this for a long time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The wonder and innocence of children is a constant reminder to me how none of us were ever born with bad intentions, bad character or bad habits. Innately we are all born good, wanting to love and to be loved. If only I can remember to see this in each adult I encounter. For each of us were once this innocent. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If only we, like my boy Angelou, would just willingly love and serve our fellow brother with whatever is in our hand, no hidden agenda or ulterior motives... just a heart of service. What a beautiful world we would have. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Thank you my son for your pure heart. You touched your Dad’s heart."

Huge shout out to Gordon Harris for providing art supplies so our resident artists can host craft/art activities throughout the day! Love to see who's coming together to support us and our street whānau :)

  • How far can your donations go?

      3 August 2018

Did you know that it only costs $33 to get a replacement birth certificate? With this, street whānau can see doctors, winz, and get other support. It doesn't take much!

Without the birth certificate, doctors won't see them, applications for transitional housing or programs get automatically turned away, and the cycle continues.

If you're wondering how much to give, consider $33 :)

  • Teaser Video | Transforming a space

      29 July 2018

These 7 talented artists from XCHC and The Rad Collective are not often given the opportunity to explore their skill in public spaces without the stigmatization that surrounds street art. So we invited the public to participate in creating this exhibition with us so that they could experience street art differently and in an interactive, fun, and socially exciting way.

    Inclusion ✔️

    acceptance ✔️

    Safe space ✔️

    creativity ✔️

  • Why now? An image worth a thousand words

Back in March, I saw something that really bothered me. I took this photo because I think we too often try to avoid the uncomfortable realities around us, especially when we don't know how to fix it/feel helpless.

This event is a small way to lean into the problem together, and hopefully, come out in a better place than before :)

These stats are an embarrassment for New Zealand. As a community let’s bring this number down.

Sometimes happiness can be as simple as laughter and yarns with good mates. Late night coffee and cake run! ☕️🍰
