Please help me bridge the gap in the cost of my disability. I'd like to independently participate in life - like everyone else.
Wellington
I am a 23 year old identical twin with cerebral palsy. Since leaving college 5 years ago, I’ve been unable to get a job – like my twin. Or a car – like my twin. Nothing different about me except my mobility.
Because I was born with cerebral palsy I am not covered by ACC. The cost of my disability is that anything I need has to be modified. This has to be funded by me and my family. My mum has raised us alone, and has done a brilliant job – but I need to do this myself.
Recently Trikes, in Levin, let me trial a handcycle 'E" assist bike that hooks onto my wheelchair. By hooking onto my day chair it allows me to get to a destination, ie a job or café, unhook it and wheel about freely. Then hook it back up for the return journey home.
Trikes have quoted $15k. They are the only suppliers in NZ and luckily for me nearby.
So, I’m reaching out to you to help my family and I fundraise for this. I would be very excited and humbled to receive any donation possible.
My mother Sarah is the main contact person. She has created a separate bank account for the funds on my behalf, specifically for the E-bike.
E-assist bike has been quoted at $15,000. All funds will go towards the bike. Any surplus will be spent on safety gear, eg. helmet and gloves.
We made it!!! 17 November 2020
Bike currently in production, ready for delivery on the 27th November. Another big shout out to everyone who supported me and us!! Thanks!
