    Elias has reached 9 months!

    9 months without starting dialysis.

This is the biggest surprise to us all when he’s been battling stage 5 kidney failure since 4 weeks old.

Elias has had 3 hospital admissions this past month unfortunately, he’s been quite unwell with recurring UTIs and these throw his levels off. Elias needs another iron infusion to make him feel better, he’s not holding on to his iron stores or his potassium, this has been an issue for us lately.

He’s absolutely incredible and impresses us every day.

Any continued help means the world to us 🩶

  • Elias update

      5 December 2024

Elias stayed home the whole of November with no admissions.

This has been the biggest and best achievement for us all!

We notice Elias feels unwell fairly quickly and his immune system is quite poor.

He’s battling a UTI, skin infection and oral thrush currently.

With some minor changes we have been able to manage this from home and hospital day stays or GP visits.

After meeting with starship it has been decided Eli’s next surgery cannot go ahead. Unfortunately he has too much damage to his bladder and would do him no good. This was going to help protect his one kidney and push out his dialysis date but now we will wait until it has done all it can and head to Auckland and start his new journey.

We don’t know when this will be, tomorrow, in a month or beginning of the year but with such little function we don’t think

    It will be long.

We are so thankful for all and any continued support for our family!

What a milestone Elias has hit, 6 months old!

Elias has had a great stretch of being at home for a few weeks, with weekly hospital checkups and a few medical tweaks, he has managed to avoid any hospital admissions since his last surgery!

Despite catching covid after discharge we also managed to keep him home to recover however this has set back a surgery he is due for as it is too unsafe to operate such a big procedure when Covid effects the lungs and Eli’s lungs are not very great. We have reached the mark where Elias is expected to start dialysis. With only one kidney working and as best as it can at such little percentage, we are expecting a lengthy trip to starship hospital to get Elias feeling much better. This will mean we are one step closer to a new kidney but a huge strain on us as we manage work and school, our amazing 5 kids and home here in Christchurch.

Everyone’s continued support means the world to us as we navigate this journey with Elias.

All the help this far has been greatly appreciated and we cannot express how thankful we are!

Elias has had a rough road the last month.

After enjoying him home for a wee while, he become extremely unwell and all his levels were thrown off landing him on a life flight to starship for some extra help.

Although this was a short week long stay, we learnt so much about him and how his future will look.

Elias is very close to needing dialysis as his kidney function is so poor.

We have learnt he is in stage 5 kidney failure.

Elias had also just undergone his second operation for many procedures in one and while he was on the mend he has been rushed in for an emergency surgery where he has been left intubated in icu.

3 surgeries in his short 4 months of life.

Elias is a fighter and he is so incredible.

We cannot thank everyone for their love and support and help which has been offered in so many ways 🥹🩶

We will continue to update his journey
