A cancer diagnosis - surgery and the need to be in her own home
Mount Maunganui, Tauranga
Our dear friend Passion (Michelle) has been diagnosed with a rare agressive metaplastic breast cancer. Since her diagnosis in April she has been self sufficient, paying rent and trying to work, all the while her body working even harder!!!! She is now facing a significant surgery (Oct 17) and there are quite a few unknowns.
For the past 6 years Michelle has been living in a workshop in the industrial area and has longed for her own home, but costs to move were prohibitive. With this recent diagnosis we have found her a home which she will move into about a month after her surgery.
We know that there are so many people that wish to give in some way, people both in NZ and overseas and we thought this was a good way to do it and to make giving accessible. That way you can make a donation that is affordable to you and we know it will really count for her.
It will mean she can take the rest to repair, whatever that looks like post surgery, and to take a much deserved breath for this new chapter without feeling the push to get back to work. We know surgery is of course step one, and rest is the most important step thereafter.
The money will cater to her loss of income, surgery recovery, rehab treatments as well as setting up her new home.
Gratitude is her forte so for whatever you can give we know it will mean a lot. Thank you for your support and love, we all know how deserving Passion is.
Friend
The money will cater to her loss of income, setting up a home, food, setting up a vege and herb garden, and anything she may need after surgery
POST SURGICAL UPDATE 11 December 2024
I met with my surgeon recently and he was surprised by the biopsy. My cancer had changed from an agressive metaplastic to a non specific invasive cancer. Still present in the body but the tumour and some lymph nodes removed. Healing from the surgery and then making a house move into my new home in Papamoa has been very tiring. The immense pressure was eased so much by special friends and family who supported me hugely in my recovery and my move.
The coming seasons will see me taking one day at a time to continue to heal at a deeper level. I have reached a point where I need to simplify more, take rest and sleep often. I cant tell you how healing it is to be in my own home after so so many years. Personally I have accomplised so much all considering, yet I have worried that I might not have what it takes to conquer this. There is always a lot more going on behind what one may assume. Its hard to go public with all the details and appointments and not necessarily appropriate. Keeping the focus on my healing has taken alot out of me and it is time to rebuild my strength from my new home. My smile is still radiant on some days!! So the next few seasons will be focussed on deeper recovery to clear the cancer.
Furthermore, collectively your balm of love and compassionate care helped me enormously through a very challenging time. Especially the language of support, help and generosity you each delivered. Once again supreme gratitude. Amore and Grace xx
