A micro-farm to help the ultra-poor

$4,480 of $12,000 goal
Given by 8 generous donors in around 4 months

We're setting up a micro-farm to support and expand our microfranchising programme for Cambodian families earning less than $2 a day.

Nationwide

Help us create transformational change in rural Cambodia! We’re already helping 50 ultra-poor families in Chhouk district to supplement their income by providing standardized poultry microfranchises. We supply them with goods on consignment, training, free veterinarian services and access to markets. Families can double their incomes for one extra hour’s work a day, so their nutrition improves and they can afford to send their children to school more regularly.

However, we’ve outgrown our partner NGO’s small site where we raise one-day-old chicks through the vaccination stage to distribute to our microfranchisees. We’ve also outgrown our central chicken coop which is starting to fall apart.

Your help is urgently needed to develop a new micro-farm so we can expand our programme. The micro-farm will be a prototype which we plan to replicate to other regions in Cambodia and South East Asia, helping hundreds of critically poor families. It will also allow us to experiment with new crops and improved sustainable farming methods for teaching to microfranchisees so they can increase their incomes further.

A perfect parcel of land has become available for purchase 2km from our current centre. The land area is 114 x 42 metres and it already has a pond, which is critically important for farming during the dry season. We plan to build five new chicken coops, a project base, and a well (for drinking water). Infrastructural improvements are also needed. The total amount we need to raise is $12,000.

We’re excited about the next stage of our development – we’d love your support so that we can achieve our goal of setting up a micro-farm to help ultra-poor communities help themselves!

About us

We empower ultra-poor rural Cambodians to run their own successful small-scale poultry enterprise to stabilize and increase their income so they can meet their basic needs. Microfranchisees in our programme receive ongoing support and access to outside markets to achieve profitability. This enables them to work towards a stable, sustainable future and plan beyond day to day survival.
