FDF and ZIWI rising up for Phoenix

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that a member of our FDF (Freeze Dried Foods) team and ZIWI family is facing an incredibly difficult time. Their daughter, Phoenix, has recently been admitted to Starship Hospital and has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain cancer known as Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG).

• This form of cancer is extremely rare in Aotearoa New Zealand, with only one or two cases diagnosed each year.

• DMG is a tumour that sits deep in the centre of the brain, between the two hemispheres. It grows rapidly and, in Phoenix’s case, has already spread to other areas of her brain. Tragically, it is inoperable due to its location and nature.

• The only treatment they can provide Phoenix is radiation therapy, which may help to slow the progression of the tumor but is not a cure.
