A 51 year old father of two fighting incurable brain cancer needs your help to pay for treatments that are not Pharmac funded
Northcote, Auckland
I’m Brent, a 51 year old husband and devoted father to two teenage children. Reaching out doesn’t come easy but I need your help.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive & incurable grade 4 brain tumour. I underwent an urgent craniotomy (brain surgery), radiation and 12 cycles of chemotherapy. Since then, I’ve had 2 further surgeries, a second round of radiation and countless chemo treatments & infusions - hard to believe I once had a needle phobia!
After exhausting standard treatments, I’ve tried several non-standard treatments with the support of my medical team. Despite many setbacks throughout my cancer journey, I am a fighter and will continue to fight this battle with courage and determination.
Unfortunately, last month I received devastating news that my tumour had grown, prompting my medical team to suggest I try immunotherapy (Keytruda). This $64,000 treatment isn’t funded due to the nature of my cancer. We've personally funded many treatments including the first two immunotherapy infusions. After recently losing my job, I’ve created this page to help fund my immunotherapy and future medical needs. Whilst family offered to write this page, I wanted to do it myself as a way to help support my family (even if I summoned the proofreading cavalry!)
I would be deeply grateful of any donations, big or small. Please help me fight this deadly cancer so that I can beat it and spend more time with my family. Thank you so much.
With love & gratitude, Brent
The money will be used to fund the cost of the immunotherapy drugs and other medical treatments.
I have also been exploring clinical trials. These trials are all based overseas and come with significant costs.
