Canterbury
Fish Screen Survey is a community project to assess the status of fish screens in Canterbury. We are aiming to complete a regional snapshot assessment of as many screens as possible in the summer of 2026/2027.
The survey is supported by a user-friendly field App that enables anyone in the community to complete and upload an assessment survey to the regional database. With over 900 fish screens in the region it will be a team effort and every contribution is much appreciated!
We are also planning on running workshops in catchments throughout the region to provide an introduction and training in using the Fish Screen Survey App. Donations to the project can be targeted at supporting a workshop in your catchment or region.
We would love to hear from you and welcome participation in the survey!
NZSAA is supporting the establishment of this project with an initial focus on completing a pilot study in the Rakaia catchment
Workshops with local communities interested in contributing to the survey within their catchments. Each workshop will develop a survey plan for fish screens in the area, and provide hands-on training in the field app during an initial group assessment.
